Frequently Asked Questions

Giclee prints are incredibly long-lasting, stable prints preferred by collectors, galleries, and artists. Using acid-free papers and pigment-based inks, giclee printed images resist fading caused by UV light and will not yellow or discolour over time.

Absolutely everyone is welcome at our studio. Whether you’re a professional artist preparing a gallery show or someone who just wants a proper family photo print, you’ll receive the same attention to detail and care.

We accept most raster file formats (JPEG, TIFF, PNG, HEIC/HEIF). For the best results in print however, we recommend exporting your images in TIFF.

For the best looking print, your image should be around 250ppi when sized for print. If you only have a low resolution image, please reach out and we can see how we can help.

For photographers shooting in RAW, we recommend exporting to the following specifications for best printing results: 

• 16bit, AdobeRGB1998 (or ProPhoto), TIFF (flattened) 

Of course! Small edits and adjustments are always included with the print price. For more involved photo-manipulation and restoration, an hourly fee will apply.

When requested, we’re happy to make “test strips” for artists to proof and request any adjustments necessary before making the final print.

We offer a variety of art papers. See our Paper Profiles to find the best fit.

We do not offer framing and mounting services in-house. We CAN refer you to the best framers in the city and facilitate mounting for your prints.

We absolutely print on canvas and other non-paper materials. Check out our Paper Profiles for some examples.

Every print made by Shoebox Studio is archival quality because every print is made on acid-free paper with pigment-based inks.

Artwork digitization and reproduction is one of our main services. We either scan or photograph your original artwork in high-resolution, we colour match the file to the original piece, then we make an accurate reproduction print.

If your artwork can fit through our door, we can digitize it! 

We offer digital restoration services, yes. This means that we scan the aged/damaged photograph and make all repairs digitally. We then make an archival print of the restored image. 

We can scan 35mm, 120mm,  4x5, 8x10 negatives and slides. We can even scan glass negatives! 

We offer rushed or expedited services for an additional fee. 

We offer courier services for the Ottawa area for an additional fee.

There is no minimum print order required. Prints are made one-by-one but discounts are offered when five or more and ten or more of the same image are printed at once. 

If you are ever unhappy with a print, you are not expected to pay. We will immediately make a reprint and you’ll only be billed for what you leave with.

For bulk printing and/or digitization, we can offer reduced pricing based off order numbers.

Once services are paid in full, all files of artworks are provided back to the artist in their full resolution to be used without restriction.
